The Bell Curve of Enterprise File Volume

Michael writes on Forbes about the rise and fall in the cost of enterprise storage, and the growing importance of storage being not just storage, but a system of file distribution and sharing with collaboration and communication involved.

Luckily, over the last 30 years or so the cost of storage has decreased by 22,000x for a single gigabyte. And, as workforces become more collaborative and remote working continues to rise, static storage systems have given way to cloud-based file-sharing solutions, which are now the de facto choice for many modern enterprises.

If there was a bell curve of the sheer volume of enterprise files I would put us firmly at the beginning of the descent. To me, this placement marks the second major transformation in how enterprises elect to use documents. No doubt some people will disagree with me…
